Fall is here! And I better take advantage of it before it's gone (it's supposed to snow in NYC today, ick). Nothing says Fall to me like mustard & maroon colors. Dreaming of this outfit, complete with a gorgeous dress by Mulberry.

Secret Storage
After living in NYC for 3 years, I know the value of storage. I am hunting for a new bed and have come across with some unique storage options. Many storage beds are platform beds with drawers underneath, but these beds offer storage in the headboard.

Ikea offers a double-whammy! Storage underneath and in the headboard. And less than $500 for the set.

Everything Goes Wrong
I don't know how much more of this I can take! This weekend was jammed packed with errands and (attempted) DIY projects. On Saturday hubby and I went bedroom furniture shopping, which seemed like an all-day event. On Sunday, I went to Home Depot to buy the Martha Stewart faux bois kit that I posted about on Friday and some paint. I got home and took the power sander to the bookcase. And thennnn I went to take a photo and I realized that I had lost my phone.... at Home Depot. I rushed back but they hadn't found it. I left my hubby's cell number and a few hours later they called to tell me that they had found it. Wooohooo, thanks Home Depot!
So since I wasted about an hour driving back and forth to Home Depot and it got really chilly in the 'burbs while the sun was setting (I was using my parent's home for my projects), I didn't get around to finishing the faux bois bookcase. Well, really, I didn't even start it besides sanding. So I will table that project for now and maybe get it to next week.
I did spray paint a few candles holders (pics soon) and 2 mirrors. Here are the before pics:

The gold color is nice, but a little old fashion looking. The silver looks more modern, and I am pleased with the final results. I will take some photos of the new, silver frames just as soon as I recover from the insanity that was this weekend :)

Faux Bois
I have a small bookcase that will be going in our guest room/office, and I have been thinking about what I want to do with it. It's currently painted white and has a bunch of stains on it. I know I have to redo it somehow. I came across the faux bois technique on Martha Stewart's site, and for $15.99 at Home Depot you can buy the entire kit. Definitely a DIY weekend! I will post the finish product next week :)

Headboards
Oh the joys of moving. Not only am I packing up my life, but I am also trying to sell a ton of things that I don't need/want (including furniture which is never easy) and shop for new furniture. It's been a slow process. I am the kind of person that wants it all taken care of and buttoned up, while my husband wants to wait until we move in to start decorating. Driving.me.crazy. I am too OCD/type A to allow that!
My next purchase is going to be a bed. I'd love a platform bed with some storage underneath, but they are few and far between. While that is still my goal, I have been looking at some beautiful and creative headboard ideas.

Too many options! At least we have the linens picked out (Anthropologie duvet). Is that half the battle? Not sure, but I like to tell myself so.

Living Room Design, Part 2
After much debate, my hubby and I have finally agreed on a style for our living room. I really didn't think he would want to be involved in the designing of our new home, but apparently I was wrong. I compiled tons of pictures and also did some really bad photoshoping, and we finally agreed on this look.
I love the textures in this room and that will be hard to replicate, I know. And there are things that I am not in love with too, so I will be adding my own twist. But at least we have a jumping off point.
Our first purchase was the couch. We wanted a sectional, but a light color - like that tan - won't work with a dog, an accident-prone hubby and our future children. I did find a pretty inexpensive version at Jennifer Convertible.
It's only $800 which makes me suspicious. It must not be comfortable.
So we search high and low and finally found a couch at Macy's. Woohoo! Now, just to piece the rest of it together. I think my next obstacle will be rugs.

Rue Magazine
I have been reading Rue Magazine for a while now. They always have such dreamy photos and clean styling. This month's issue came out yesterday and didn't disappoint. You can click on the play button below to check it out.
Here are some my favorite pictures from the issue.

Living Room Design
Now that our moving date is getting closer, I am in scramble mode to start designing. The living room/dining room (it's an open floor plan) is my biggest obstacle. Originally I wanted to try to match the wall color to the kitchen back-splash and found this beautiful photo on WestElm.com.
Much to my surprise, my hubby (who has never been interested in interior design, even in our existing home), wasn't keen on the color. While I love the gray/blue, I have to respect his opinion (or do I?!). So I scoured my vast photo collection and Pinterest.com to find something we both can agree on. While we haven't fully agreed, we are closer.

Zara, you confuse me so
I love Zara. It started when I studied abroad (before it came to the US). I love that now there is one a few blocks from both my home and office. However, their Fall 2011 campaign confuses me. I know that menswear is in. I get it. It looks cool. But why have a model wearing menswear who looks kind of like a man (a pretty one, at that)? Don't get me wrong, this (female) model is beautiful, but it was sort of confusing when I saw the photos/billboards/ads. I thought, "is that a man or a woman? I want that coat, but is this men's?" Just seems confusing to me why they would pick this model and style her this way. Then again, what do I know!

Just Peachy
I had a wonderful peach today and thought I would blog about it. Just kidding. The peach wasn't that great and I wouldn't subject you to listening to my go on and on about a fruit. But here is some stuff that is pretty great.
I am going to attempt to do an all-peach make-up look. If it turns out OK, I will share.
